Having a career as a truck driver means so much more than just driving a forty ton massive truck. It means knowing how to integrate in a team, in a company, in a way in which you can do your best work and receive a fitting compensation. Petrica Rachita is one of those truck drivers. He started working at Reining five years ago and this is his story.
The application procedure – From A to Z
The steps you need to take from reading the vacancy until really working are pretty small. Within a period of 48 hours it’s possible you are already behind the wheel. And that is exactly how it went with Petrica. “Five years ago I saw an ad on social media, about working at Reining. Without any hesitation I applied. I got invited for an interview and a couple days later I stepped on a plane to Germany. After seven days I was driving my truck through France, Belgium and The Netherlands.”
Obviously this is all pretty fast. Not all drivers are starting on their own that quick. We have multiple test- and try-outs to make sure that the quality of our new drivers is high. And Reining offers many different training programs so every driver can grow and learn new things. For Petrica working at Reining marked a new era: “I was now a professional, international driver. In the past I had worked for Deutsche Post, but that was in a much smaller area. And with Reining I have a lot of opportunities to do more than just driving.” Petrica is also a freelance journalist and his Reining career can be combined perfectly with being a journalist. “Flexibility is very important for me. And luckily, Reining is a flexible employer and many coworkers share that opinion.”
The first contact
When Petrica left the plane, a Reining coworker was already waiting to pick him up. This coworker would also become his mentor. Petrica was brought to the location where his life as a truck driver would officially begin. “All my colleagues were so nice and helpful. They did everything they could to tell me all about the work and to make me feel comfortable. Being away from home for a long time can be challenging, but at Reining we are a family that tries to make the best of it.” Reining has many different locations where drivers can stay to make use of their long weekend rests. “Those locations are our homes away from home. We meet one another, spend time together and learn about each other and our cultures. The weekends are very interesting.
The work and job opportunities
Working at Reining offers a job where you drive a lot of fixed routes. Petrica explains: “Long- and shorter distances are well balanced and the job has one big advantage: A lot of breaks. I always have a bike or an e-scooter in my truck, so I can go out and visit the beautiful cities and villages that I visit. From Marseille to Groningen. I get to know about the history and see amazing landscapes.
Working at Reining
“Reinig is a great employer”, Petricia tells us. The salary is average up to high, the working hours can be demanding, but it allows a lot of flexibility. And thanks to the many different locations around Holland and Germany you have the opportunity to rest, cook, clean and sleep. The trucks are decent and all repairs are being done by the company. Altogether I am very happy to work at Reining. I get the opportunity to constantly learn new things, can do my job just as it should and meet lots of new friends. Who doesn’t want that?”
